David Freiman

David Freiman was born in 1982 and grew up in Pikesville, Maryland. David met his wife, Anna, while attending the University of Maryland, College Park. They were married in 2007, and they were joined by their daughter, Adina, in 2015. David is a CPA and currently works as a data privacy director in financial services.

David was introduced to the Abayudaya at the 2015 FJMC convention in Miami, where he met Aaron Kintu Moses, z”l, of the Abayudaya Jewish community of Uganda. David was inspired by what he learned about the Abayudaya, and he has dedicated over a decade to supporting the Abayudaya – its Men’s Club and its schools.

In 2016, David partnered with several FJMC men to raise funds to rescue several Abayudaya trapped by fighting across the border in South Sudan. Later that year, David raised additional funds to support Hadassah Primary school efforts to obtain energy security through the purchase of solar panels.

In 2017, David and Anna hosted Aaron Moses for several nights before the FJMC convention in Alexandria, VA and hosted a fundraising parlor session in their home. David took Aaron on tours of the White House, the Capitol, and the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum in Virginia.

In 2019, David visited Mbale, Uganda to attend the celebration marking 100 years since the Abayudaya adopted Judaism in 1919. David visited the community again in 2023 to attend the bat Mitavah of Rabbi Gershom’s youngest daughter, Ziva. On these trips, David was further inspired by the survival and successes of the Abayudaya community in the face of true adversity. David was welcomed warmly and was amazed by the local food and musical Shabbat services. The Abayudaya people are such an outlier in the Jewish world, and yet the community has persisted through creativity, determination, and strong friendships. David was surprised to learn that the Abayudaya generally lived in poverty along-side their non-Jewish neighbors.

Throughout the COVID pandemic, David helped to raise $60,000 from FJMC members and others throughout the USCJ world to purchase food and lifesaving medical supplies, and to help sustain the Abayudaya schools throughout lockdown.

Since COVID subsided, David remains the primary liaison between the FJMC and the Abayudaya, continues his fundraising and awareness campaigns, and serves as a resource for groups and individuals throughout the United States that are interested in supporting the Abayudaya.

In addition to his involvement with the Abayudaya, David served as the president of the Shaare Torah Men’s Club (2014-2017) and as president of Shaare Torah Congregation (2020-2022) in Gaithersburg, MD.
